halcyon days with yumi takahashi: day 5

Dear Yumi,

I loved your little texta plates, particularly because the people are all so happy and the birds line up in a sky that holds on for dear life at the very edge of the picture.

Your Pablo Picasso quote inspired me to make a tiny film out of some old (and new) footage. I hope you like it!

In the film you might have spotted the following things, which we’ve discussed in our posts so far this week:

  • chalk on the pavement;
  • texta on a plate; and
  • a community-minded ice-cream van.

As you can probably tell, I’ve become fixated these past couple of days on ice-cream vans. Actually, maybe I’ve been fixated a bit longer than a couple of days. Here are some photos I took last year:

  1. I Love Air ! and Kyoto is one of my favoritest ever songs!

    I realise not having background music or dialogue just reminds me of asian horror films ( I kept expecting the ice cream guy to be some sort of apparition etc) Apologies for taking away the deep-ness of your movie 😀

  2. What are your Air and Kyoto references about?

    I tried to reflect what was going on in my head, so I suppose it’s Dada with a hint of Asian horror. A bit disturbing!

    Still waiting on my trailer! tsk tsk… 😉
